A Guide to Hardwood Flooring Texture

Choosing a face treatment for your hardwood is extremely important as it can influence the entire atmosphere and design of a room.

Many factors should be taken into consideration when purchasing your hardwood flooring.
Some of the most important factors are:

Level of traffic in the space

Presence of pets

Presence of children

Style envisioned

In order to determine which hardwood flooring texture will work best for you, we encourage you to consider the following:

Each of our flooring products has gone through a strenuous process of texturing (some even
combining two or more different techniques). Each technique has its own benefits, but the
above factors can help to determine which face treatment will properly suit the needs of your space.
We also recommend brushing up on the differences below.

Smooth:

Out of all the texturing techniques, the smooth finish is our most refined, polished look. Featuring a flat, even layer, this style will infuse a timeless, classic feel in your space. We offer finishes in different styles: matte, satin, or high gloss, to name a few. As it is sleek and does not demonstrate any imperfections, this face treatment is ideal for low foot traffic areas.

Distressed:

The distressed texturing technique creates a vintage, rustic appearance. Depending on the color, this face treatment can incorporate a variety of processes such as hand scrapes, saw marks, and chatter, resulting in an antique, lived-in look. This face treatment is ideal for larger families, pet-owners, and/ or high-traffic areas.

Wire-Brushed:

Our wire-brushed technique is the perfect balance between a smooth, classical style and a distressed, rustic look. This unique method has the ability to enhance and accentuate the grain of the wood, as the brushing exposes the naturally occurring features already existing within the wood, and creates long and linear strokes. The resulting texture remains subtle and adds complexity to the floors. This face treatment is best for medium to heavy foot traffic.
